Plain Vanilla Mom

DIY Nursery Wall Art

in arts & crafts, crafty, diy, home on 09/09/13

I fully intended to do this project months ago but better late than never right? Regardless I’m so happy with the results and Little E is loving his new high contrast wall art.

The idea that babies love high contrast was my inspiration for this project. I used three 8×10 canvases and some cute wooden cut outs that I found at Michaels. I just used regular acrylic paint to paint the cut outs black and white.

For the canvases I taped off a striped pattern using painters tape and then painted them with grey acrylic paint. Similar to what we did here.

Once everything was dry I used mod podge to glue the wood pieces onto the canvas. They are nice and tight and holding up nicely.

These canvases look great above Little E’s changing table and give him something interesting to look at during changing times (which was my ultimate goal).  Tip: When hanging art for baby’s changing table keep baby in mind and hang it low enough that baby can get a good look. Remember baby’s perspective.  I could have probably hung these a little lower, but there’s a fine line between easy for baby to see and easy for baby to pull off the wall.

I am really happy with the way these turned out. I just wish I had gotten them done sooner. They would look equally cute in color too! In fact,  I’m tempted to make another round for E’s walls when he’s a little older. His nursery is grey and yellow so the black and white looks great in there right now anyhow.
