You have probably heard me mention that Mr. C ‘s imagination is blooming. The latest is he’s turning everything and anything into puppets. He loves to run around the house with his socks on his hands performing various musical numbers. Picture Tom Cruise in Risky Business with sock puppets. Yes, it’s that entertaining. With his love of puppetry in mind I threw together this quick little shamrock puppet craft for him.
What you will need:
- Foam shamrock shapes. I found ours at the dollar store but you could easily cut shamrock shapes out of foam sheets instead.
- googly eyes
- glue dots or glue. I like glue dots for a craft like this as nice low mess alternative to glue. Bonus: they are instantly dry so we can play with our puppets right away!
- craft sticks
- small pompoms (Thank you Craft Project Ideas for providing us with the pompoms!)
- black marker
To make your shamrock puppet, use the glue dots to glue your craft stick to your foam shamrock. Add goggly eyes & pompoms to make the face and draw on a mouth with black marker. The way I use glue dots with C is I adhere the glue dots to the materials for him ahead of time and then let him stick them on. It’s almost like using stickers. It didn’t take him more than 5 -10 minutes to complete his puppets but he really enjoyed the process. In this case it didn’t bother me either that it was a quick activity because it didn’t take long to prep. Don’t you hate it when you spend a half hour prepping for an activity that lasts five minutes? I know I do!
See… there you go! Adorable shamrock puppets.
