Even though my brain is already starting to jump ahead to Easter (you know for the sake of the blog and all). I realize most of us are probably just getting around to doing some St. Patrick’s Day projects.
Being that C loves to paint but I am more of a Mess Averse Momma, I’ve tried to find different ways of getting creative with his painting. Marble painting is something he really likes. Personally I think it’s because he can get his whole body into it with the shaking and all. Regardless, it’s really not that messy so it’s a big win in my book and we do it often.
Recently we decided to put a St. Patrick’s Day spin on our marble painting and do some marble painted shamrocks. If you’ve never painted with marbles it couldn’t be easier. I’m certain your kiddos will love it as much as mine. Just grab a plastic container (large enough to fit the paper you are working with) a few marbles and some paint.
I found some shamrock cut outs among our holiday decor and used them as stencils to cut shamrock shapes out of white paper. Ideally I would have used card stock for this but I didn’t have any on hand so plain old white printer paper it was.
Put your shamrock, the marbles and a few squirts of paint into the container and then put the lid on. It really doesn’t take much paint at all.
Now the fun part. Shake it up! (Did I mention C loves this part?) In hindsight I could have totally let Little E have a whirl at this activity and I’m sure he would have loved it. Alas he was napping and this happened during some Mommy & Me time for C.
I personally think the best part is the big reveal. He’s always so excited to lift the lid and see what his art looks like.
I love that each one comes out just a little bit different.
If you’re looking for more creative ideas for some St. Patrick’s Day themed painting look no further. I’ve polled a few friends and found some great ideas for you. Links to the individual activities are below the collage and in order from left to right and top to bottom.

Active painting. Love it. My son would be all for it too, I think. Oh, and thank you for including our Shamrock stamps.

Thanks Birute and you are most welcome 🙂
My 2 year old and I did something very similar last week, except I let him marble paint on a round sheet of paper and then I cut 4 leaf clovers out of them. I then turned them into a bunting for a bit of decoration!

Oh I like the idea of stringing them like that! Marble painting is so much fun isn’t it?
Very cute! Why did I never think to put a lid on our container?! Thank you for linking up to the Thoughtful Spot Weekly Blog Hop!
haha, oh I would never survive without the lid 😀 Thanks for stopping by and saying hi!
Another idea is to put the paint in different small containers and a few marbles in each one. Then have the kids scoop the marbles out with a plastic spoon and put them onto the picture (in the box). Then shake it up. Scooping is a great skill for my preschoolers with special needs to work on to help them become more independent with self-feeding!
