Want to know what we’ve playing lately? Ok… I will tell you this… it rocks. hehe. Alright enough cheeky puns. I just couldn’t resist. I’m sure there are at least a billion ways to play with rocks. The little Mister is just beginning to scratch the surface of all the fun there is to be had with them but I wanted to share with you what we’ve been up to so far. I know I should tell you that we went for long walk collecting all the rocks we’ve been playing with… but instead I’m going to tell you these rocks came in a bag, found in the floral section of the dollar store. (Don’t judge). It’s the best dollar I ever spent.
Scooping Rocks into miniature cups. I found these little cups at the dollar store too and we use them often. C loves playing with them. For this activity I set out a bowl of rocks with a plastic spoon and a few little cups and he was good to go!
Rice, Rocks and Trucks. I think more of the rice got flung out of the bin than stayed in it but C had fun even if Mom did more sweeping than playing. He’s been really into his trucks lately and this was a new way for him to play with them.
Counting Rocks. Alas the little guy does not have much patience to sit and count rocks with me. It was worth a try! If your little one is into it though it could be fun.
Panning for Rocks (Water, Rocks & Strainers). In hindsight adding some sand to this activity would have made it that much better, but you do what you can when you are in a hurry some days. Regardless the little guy was very entertained and played for quite some time. Often it’s the simplest things that are the biggest winners.
Rocks and Playdough. Let me just say C loved this! I’m not sure what the biggest appeal was for him but it was a hit. I think it was squishing the rocks way into the playdough that intrigued him the most. Whatever it was I’ll take it. I will even go so far as to say this was his favorite accompaniment to playdough yet.
