My Picky Eater; MeMeTales Readathon Week 3

This week’s topic for the MeMeTales Readathon 2012 is Character Development. As always all the books to choose from are wonderful! We decided to read the story of “Ditto the Butterfly”. The description for this book is: Ditto to butterfly learns to eat from different flowers. A story that teaches children the importance of eating a good diet and trying new foods.

Perfect for my picky eater! After we read the story we talked further about the importance of eating a variety of foods AND trying new foods. I have to say that A has gotten better over the years and is at least willing to try things he wasn’t before.  In the spirit of trying new foods, we set up a little blind taste test of for ourselves! I laid out a variety of foods, some I knew that Mr. A would like, some I knew he would recognize although he may not like them, and a few things he hadn’t tried before. Then, with eyes closed he sampled away.

I made it all very official by placing small amounts of a variety of foods in bowls and labeling them. That way after he tasted something he could peak and read what he had tried. He would always try to guess what the food was first which made it even more fun. It was a little more exciting to try something he might not like that way!

A loved this activity.  In fact, he enjoyed it so much that he just had to set up a blind taste test for me afterwards. I have to admit I was a little worried as to what he might come up with after I snuck cottage cheese in on him but he was very kind. :)
