Welcome to week two of the MeMeTales and PBSKids Readathon! Have you been reading along with us? The theme for this week is Friendship and the books available on MeMeTales for this week are StickFiggy Makes a Friend, Lott’s Tea Party & Arthur.
We read and enjoyed them all! We decided to do our project around Stick Figgy Makes a Friend. My seven year old loves the StickFiggy books by Jane Marshall. They are so cute and he never gets tired of reading them.
This week I asked him what he thought we should do for an activity to go along with the story. Without hesitation he said “I’ve got it Mom!” He wanted to create a game. Then, of course, he could play the game with his friends, or me. Glad I make the ranks as friend!
Here’s the game he created all on his own. He wouldn’t let me see until it was done! I think he did a fantastic job. He drew StickFiggy and the chick and tried to interpret other elements from the story as well. He knows about the blog and what we are doing with this reading program. When it was all said and done he said “Mom, I feel really proud of myself for making this game”. As well he should. Big hugs to my little guy for this one!
The object of the game is to get StickFiggy through the path from his house to his friend the chick at the other end of the path. His idea was to play it one of two ways. You can either play a traditional game of rolling the dice and moving that number of spaces, or you can play by rolling the dice, adding up the two numbers and them moving to the closet space on the board with the corresponding sum. Either way, the first one to get StickFiggy to the chick wins!
