With all the Halloween activities in full swing I figured why should the babies be left out. I decided to get Little E in on the action with an updated and “spooky” version of our sensory bag for babies.
This time around, instead of hair gel, I opted for colored water. Little E loves to splash and the movement of the colored water in the bag is just so inviting. Plus whatever you put in the water will float around a little faster so more action for baby.
What You Will Need: ziplock freezer bags (I used quart size) food coloring in Halloween colors water filler for the bag packing tape or duct tape Fill the bags about 1/3 of the way full with water and then add in a few drops of food coloring. We made orange, green & purple. For the bags I would recommend freezer bags as they are a bit sturdier. I’ve used the regular “storage” bag variety before and they spring leaks much quicker. Next add something spooky and interesting to your bag. I used sparkly pom poms, glitter, plastic spiders & googly eyes. Beads, marbles or glass gems are all good choices. Table scatter, fall leaves for example can often be found in Target dollar bins and would work great too. Be creative. Even if you just use colored water and glitter I can almost promise your little one will be intrigued. Just be sure you don’t pick something that will aid in puncturing the bag when little one is squishing it. Seal your bag & tape the ends. Try to squeeze as much of the air out as possible when sealing the bag. I sealed both the zipper end and the bottom end with packing tape to help prevent leaks.
Little E loved these just as much as his older brother did when he was this age. I had such fun recreating this project with a Halloween theme for him.
Mr. C apparently still finds them equally inviting and knew just what to do when I laid them out for his little brother.
As always please supervise your baby constantly when playing with “non-traditional” toys like this. While in my opinion sensory bags like this have provided great experiences for my babies they can be a choking hazard. You know your baby best so only do what you are comfortable with.
