The theme for this week, Week 5, of MeMeTales is Green/Earth. There were a couple of books to chose from but the book “Lets Go Chipper; Into the Great Outdoors” struck a cord with my Mr A. Nothing seemed more appropriate than heading outdoors to explore after reading ‘Lets Go Chipper’. Nothing except maybe camping, but let me be honest… I don’t do camping spur of the moment. I’m more of a Mariott kind of gal ;)
We decided to set out and see what we could find in our own back yard. Just like Chipper suggested in the story, we looked “up in trees”, “under rocks” and “in the leaves”. Under rocks, we found lots (and lots) of ants. More than I would have liked mind you. We found birds up in trees. In the leaves we found all kinds of things… Bees on plants, many many butterflies, veggies growing amongst the leaves in our garden, spiders, and even a few things we couldn’t identify. I guess it was more of an open ended adventure than it was a scavenger hunt. However, it was nice to have a fresh look around the yard. It’s not often we walk around just to see what we can see. It was a great change of pace.
If you haven’t signed up for the MeMeTales Readathon yet there’s still time! So far this program has been able to donate over 5500 meals to hungry kids. You can read more about it all here.
Don’t forget to check out the other book highlighted this week. “What Does It Mean to Be Green?”. We read it too and it’s a great book that provides every day practical examples about what it means to be green and the simple things we can do every day to live greener
I hope you will check back next week for week 6, our final week, of MeMeTales. Wow! I can’t believe we are that far into summer already!
Disclaimer: I am receiving books each week free from MeMeTales. In exchange I will be sharing with you the activities we do as well as ideas related to the theme of the week along with promoting this program. My honest opinion is that it is a WONDERFUL program and we would be participating in this Readathon whether my blog was selected as a partner or not. (although I can also honestly say I’m thrilled that we were!).
