Plain Vanilla Mom

Fun and Learning with Mickey’s Magical Math World

in learning, preschoolers, reviews, Uncategorized on 16/12/14

Needless to say it’s busy around here and sometimes (and I’m just gonna be honest here), the only way to keep my no-longer-napping-somedays 3 year old sitting in one spot and quiet long enough for me to really accomplish anything is to let him have some much coveted iPad time. I typically cringe when I resort to screens to buy me extra time but some days it’s just all that’s going to work. That said,  I try my best to find quality, fun, apps that are both entertaining and educational. That’s why I intrigued when I heard that Disney is launching a new learning brand created for families with children ages 3-8, aiming to engage and enrich children through the power of imagination and creativity.

I was very excited to have the chance to check out the first of the  Disney Imagicademy apps Mickey’s Magical Math World and share our experiences with you.  In Mickey’s Magical Math World, children are invited to join Mickey and his pals on a fun-filled Space adventure that explores math concepts within a fully immersive playground of magical experiences.

Kids can explore, recognize and identify shapes with Mickey’s Rocket Build; Play with numbers and patterns within Minnie’s Robot Playground (One of C’s favorite games in the app); Ponder early number concepts with Donald’s Alien Number Line; Explore Counting to 10 and early problem solving with Donald’s Sleepwalking Aliens and experiment with shapes, patterns and sorting skills with Goofy.

I downloaded Mickey’s Magical Math World with the intention of sitting down to play through it with Mr. C  for the first time,  but before I even had the chance he stumbled across it and was off and running all on his own.  I like that he could actually play it and be successful without my help and it really kept him engaged for quite some time. He’s recently started taking more interest in numbers, but he doesn’t have much patience to sit down and do any work with me when it comes to counting and number recognition.  Mickey’s Magical Math World is making numbers and math concepts fun for him and I am totally ok with that! There is so much for him to explore throughout the app and so much to be learned.  I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that its space themed and of course that it’s Mickey and friends 🙂

IMG_6205There’s even an app for parents within  Disney’s Imagicademy that’s full of ideas and inspirational activities designed to help spark creativity, encourage imaginative learning and to help you, help your child grow. In addition it also serves as a portal into children’s Mickey’s Magical Math World, where parents can see their child’s latest creations, provide encouragement with a virtual “high five” and share their accomplishments with family and friends.  I personally like the activity ideas (like Tigger’s Shooting Star Ornament or the Wooden Soldiers).

IMG_0273It all looks fun right? Mr. C would agree with you! Go ahead, you can download these free iPad apps right now.  Mickey’s Magical Math World (exclusively for iPad) HERE and Imagicademy Parents (available for both the iPad and iPhone) HERE.  As for me. I’ll be off wrapping a few more Christmas presents while this guy plays a little more 🙂
