Plain Vanilla Mom

Paper Plate Spiders

in Halloween on 29/10/14

Well hello there! Did you think I had fallen off the face of the earth? Mr. C started preschool this fall and he subsequently has pretty much stopped napping so I guess that’s sort of the same thing as falling off the face of the earth right? Ok, I know I know, Halloween is like two one day away and I’m just getting around to posting a craft tutorial here but that is reality folks. This is the way we are rolling these days. However, you will be happy to know this craft literally took minutes. (Minutes that were thoroughly enjoyed by a certain 3 year old and his onlooking little brother I might add).  So,  you can easily roll along with us and still bang out some really cool, looks like I put in a lot of effort but I really didn’t, Halloween project with your kiddos.

PaperPlateSpider

Here’s what you need…

  • Black paper plates  – (You can paint white ones if you want but time is of the essence here folks, Halloween is tomorrow)
  • googly eyes
  • glue  – (we used glue dots)
  • pipe cleaners (courtesy of craftprojectideas.com)
  • hole punch

Paper Plate Spider 1

Here’s what you do..

Punch holes in the side of the plate for legs and then thread the pipe cleaners through the holes. Our first spider only had 6 legs (oops Mom!) and after C put the pipe cleaners through the holes I just tied big ol’ knots in the back so they couldn’t slip through. For our second spider I got smarter (and remembered a spider actually has 8 legs not 6) and showed C how to thread the pipe cleaner in one hole and out the other so one pipe cleaner became two legs if you catch my drift. Stick with me…that’s the hardest part here. After that all you need to do is glue on eyes and your done!

Paper Plate Spider 4

Be sure to hang the little fella somewhere fun!

Paper Plate Spider 2

Happy Halloween!

Hi There!

Welcome! I'm Jen, just your average well caffeinated, camera wielding, multitasking, plain vanilla mom to three boys. I love photography & am addicted to Instagram (oh & Starbucks).
