Summer Reading. Those two things go hand in hand don’t they? That’s why when the Love Books Summer Book Exchange showed up on my radar I couldn’t help but want to participate.
What is the Love Books Summer Book Exchange you ask? Well, over 60+ kid bloggers have been thoughtfully paired up thanks to Kim and Amanda at The Educators’ Spin On It. For the exchange each blogger chose a book and put together an activity which they in turn mailed to another kid blogger.
Books, reading, activities, mail…. What’s not for a kid to love! (or a parent for that matter). I think this whole experience was just as much fun for me as it has been for Mr. C. He loved getting mail. No, make that LOOOOVED getting mail and I really enjoyed choosing a book and thinking up a project for someone other than my own children for a change.
We were paired up with Betsy from BPhotoArt.com . You can see her post and read about the book and activity we sent them HERE. In exchange we received this book and activity [picture below].
C really loved this book. Maybe it’s because he’s intrigued by the possibility of tying shoes. Or maybe it’s because it’s his special book that came in the mail just for him, but we have been reading “What Will I Do if I Can’t Tie My Shoe?” non stop for the last month or so since its arrival.
The activity that came along with the book was a big hit too. A bag filled with all kinds of goodies to practice those hands on skills (like tying your shoe) that every child needs to learn. Included were all sorts of things like velcro, a lacing card, zipper, buttons, snaps, buckles and more. C actually likes to buckle, zip, clip etc so this was fantastic for him. What a great idea and a fun way to practice! I’m sure he will get lots of enjoyment out of this little activity bag for many months to come. I might even toss it, along with the book, into our car for summer road trips. It’s bound to keep those little hands busy for awhile.
Just look at all the focus and concentration he is putting into this activity. I love it!
I hope you will check out Betsy’s post to see the book and activity we chose for them and also The Educators’ Spin On It for more fun books and activity pairings from the great minds behind the Love Books Summer Book Exchange.
Happy Reading!
I’m so glad C had a blast with the activity! Looks like it was a big hit :). And I’m glad that the book made it to his repeat reads “list” …always a sign of a success!
