Plain Vanilla Mom

Play Dough Cupcake Factory

in birthdays, diy, play, play dough, sensory play on 21/07/14

I honestly love making homemade gifts when it seems like a good fit.  I find it’s a lot easier to do when the kiddos are younger than when they are older so I try to take advantage while I can.  Recently we put together this little play dough cupcake factory gift set for a close friend of C’s. I’m pleased to report she loved it! C loved it so much too that we had to make a second set for at home.

Play Dough Cupcake Factory

Here’s how we did it….

  • homemade play dough (recipe HERE)
  • silicone cupcake liners
  • various buttons,  beads and gems along small containers to put them in (think sprinkles) – beads & gems provided courtesy of crafprojectideas.com
  • birthday candles

The play dough recipe is one of my favorites! It comes out perfectly every time. I actually cut the recipe in half to make each of the two colors you see here.  To make the sparkly play dough just at [tons] of glitter (also courtesy of craftprojectideas.com) during the kneading process.

This little play set is just so inviting. C could hardly keep his hands off it long enough for us to bundle it up. To package it for gifting I just wrapped the two colors of play dough separately and put a small handful of a few different varieties of beads and gems in some little plastic containers.  We put everything into a big cellophane bag and tied it with a bow and a tag.

And just in case your wondering I did in fact have to make Mr. C his own batch of pink sparkly play dough 😉

This looks like a fun gift to put together and to receive. I just worry that my little one won’t be willing to give it out when it’s done. Will definitely have to make more than one. Thanks for the tip!
