We keep Christmas pretty simple around here. I do most of my creative crafting & projects over Halloween. At Christmas we are very much about tradition and tend to do the same things year after year. Advent calendars, gingerbread houses, ornament making and lots and lots of baking to name a few. Perhaps as the babes get older I’ll find a bit more time but in the meantime I’m lucky just to get gifts bought and wrapped for 5 kids! Just keepin it real folks.
As I’m Christmas shopping I do try to check out my favorite spots for any quick and simple Christmas themed activity I can throw together. These gingerbread men fall into that category. Just a quick little craft/invitation to create that I threw together with a few items from Target’s dollar spot. Nothing particularly mind blowing but cute none the less so I have to share. This is a perfect activity to pair with Jan Brett’s Gingerbread Baby if you’d like a good book to go with it.
I was able to find all the supplies…foam gingerbread men cut outs, ribbon, buttons and even washi tape at the dollar spot. If there’s not one near you or you can’t find foam cutouts you could easily cut your own gingerbread men out of brown foam using a cookie cutter as a stencil. Throw in a few items as embellishments and some glue (we used glue dots) and your good to go.
Mr. C thought this was fantastic. Two gingerbread people was about the extent of his attention span.
He was so proud of his creations he was actually willing to hold them up for me to photograph so I can’t resist throwing a few more pictures than necessary into this post. (Usually he’s saying “no picture mommy, no picture”)
And yes, if you have a really good eye, you may have notice in one of the previous pictures, our gingerbread girl was looking very, shall we say…authentic…
Hope your holiday season is off to a good start (and no one bites your head off) 😀
