Plain Vanilla Mom

How to Take a Mommy Time Out

in mommy time on 28/10/13

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group®, PEOPLE Magazine & Hershey’s, but all my opinions are my own. #HersheysPeople #pmedia http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

We have been up to our eyeballs with Halloween activities around here. And I even have a few more to share with you, but before I do, this Mommy needed a little time out!  I know you know what I mean. Work commitments, school commitments, costumes to make or buy, Halloween parties, pumpkins to carve, cookies to bake , candy to buy, [insert whatever is on your list here] Phew! I’m tired just typing all of  it and I’m sure I didn’t even scratch the surface. So today, I’m  giving you a little sneak peek into my “real” life and sharing with you what a little Me Time looks like. To be known from this day forward as, Mommy’s Time Out.

Ditch the kids. I know it might sound harsh but the first step in getting some quality ME time is to get in the car without the kids. For me that means at least one Sunday afternoon a month Dad spends a little quality time with the boys while I spend a little quality time with myself…out of the house.

Once in the car, crank up the tunes! Without the kids in the car my favorite way to clear my head is to turn up the music that I want to hear. Preferably loud enough that I can’t hear myself think, and of course singing along, out loud, is a must.

Caffinate. Enough Said. Latte in hand & I’m ready to go!

A little retail therapy. Nothing makes me feel more like my former self than a little shopping trip. Target on my own, with time to spare, puts this Momma in her happy place.

While at Target, buy chocolate. Preferably Hershey’s. Why should the trick-or-treaters have all the fun? A bag of Hershey’s Dish Candy is perfect to hide away just for me. Hershey kisses are my favorite!

Also while at Target, pick up a good magazine like PEOPLE Magazine. (You’ll see why in a minute)

Get a pedicure. While having said pedicure,  read PEOPLE Magazine & eat Hershey’s chocolate.

Play dress up. Ok, confession, pre kids I was a shop-a-holic. My favorite past time was clothes shopping for yours truly. I had to dress to the 9’s for my job and I loved it.  Even if I don’t buy anything, heading to the dressing room and trying on new clothes (alone) is fun. If we are being honest, on the rare occasion I do get out to shop alone,  like I’m not going to buy something 😉

Ride the escalator at the mall….alone.  I know this sounds like no big deal to some of you, but when you are typically pushing around a stroller built for two,  riding the escalator alone is a big deal.

On the ride home crank the tunes again and eat more Hershey’s Dish Candy.  In fact, eat so much Hershey’s chocolate that when you get home to take pictures there is literally only a handful left. oops! So much for stashing that bag away for later.

Once home and kids are entertaining themselves again sit down on the couch and try to finish reading PEOPLE Magazine. Only to be jumped on by  a two year old who is very happy to have Mommy back home 🙂 After all, that’s where I belong right?
