Plain Vanilla Mom

Oatmeal Sensory Play

in baby play, play, sensory play, toddler play on 14/05/13

Have you ever used oatmeal as a sensory medium? We have used it in small amounts in the past but I have admittedly been a bit hesitant to let the little mister go wild with with it inside.  It does however seem perfect for outside play on a beautiful sunny day.

A little fun with an oatmeal sensory bin out on our deck.
Mr. C loved it. He played with it much like sand. Scooping,  pouring, and dumping.  He thoroughly explored his oatmeal sensory bin,  and being that it was outside, he was free to dump, throw and toss [oatmeal] as he pleased,  until his little heart was content.
It was even fun sweeping up!
The oatmeal did leave a little coating of dust on everything so after we swept I gave the little guy a container filled with water and dish soap to wash all the shovels and cups and extended his playtime that much more.
Have you ever tried oatmeal for sensory play?

I am LOVING all of your posts and I also want to thank you for putting Mr. C’s age on a lot of your posts, it makes it easier to help gauge age appropriate activities for a mom who is just starting to read up more on sensory play!!
