Plain Vanilla Mom

Halloween Sensory Bowl for the Babe

in Halloween, holidays, sensory play on 19/10/12

Alrighty, so I am trying to get into the spirit for you all, or get the blog in the spirit as the case may be. We are actually very much in the spirit at our house. I was buying my fall candles in August, and the Halloween decorations have been up since mid-September. We even have a Halloween party in the works. It’s more like the blogging spirit that’s leaving me hanging, but alas I can not let the season pass without one or two Halloween themed posts.

Recently I  put together a little Halloween sensory bowl for the munchkin man. “Spiderweb” filling with a bunch of bugs, and skeletons mixed in. All things I picked up at the dollar store by the way. Along with the pie`ce de resistance…two glitter bouncing balls with floating eyeballs inside. Sure to be a hit.

It was definitely a hit. Well at least the bouncing balls were! They were the first thing the little guy reached for…..and the last.

Just look at that face

He shook them from the cobwebs and never looked back.  Of course since he’s recently learned to throw balls, the first thing he did was throw them…and they lit up (much to my surprise)!! Very cool, but that sealed the deal. He played with those balls for the rest of the afternoon (no exaggeration) and the remainder of the bowl and its contents went untouched. If he wasn’t playing solely with the bouncing balls he was incorporating them into his play somehow. While I was really pleased with the overall “bin” I totally could have walked out of the dollar store with just those two balls and he would have been perfectly happy.

Ok, I have to admit this is pretty much the coolest dollar store purchase I’ve made in while…and we are still playing with those glowing bouncy eyeballs 🙂

Happy Halloween!
