I am in a rut. I have a backlog of photos a mile long waiting to be edited and printed, and little desire to pick up my camera. It’s summer and all I want to do is play play play! Of course I know myself and if i don’t document all this playing I will be kicking myself six months from now. So, that said. How in the world do I get myself out of a rut?
I force myself to do something. A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G
I pick one thing, one aspect of photography, and then I focus on that until my creative juices come flowing back. It usually doesn’t take very long.
Sometimes it’s challenging myself to shoot with a particular lens for a certain amount of time. Maybe it’s a day, maybe a week.
Sometimes it’s forcing myself out of my comfort zone (aka: own laziness) and finding a fun new location to take the kids to.
And sometimes it’s just sitting down and catching up on editing. I really do love the creative process of editing. In the winter it’s so easy for me to curl up on the couch and spend my evenings flipping through the year’s images and editing the nights away, but this time of year, when the days are longer and we are playing harder, I tend not to make as much time for it. It certainly helps if once in a while treat myself to a new set of Lightroom presets. (New presets to a photographer are the equivalent of a new toy for the kiddos). Nothing motivates me more to edit than new presets to play with!
I recently had a chance to check out the full collection of lightroom presets from Joystruck. They certainly are “the world’s friendliest lightroom presets”. I absolutely love how simple the process was to get these presets installed. Without a doubt the most seamless process I’ve come across yet. I just downloaded them and Poof! There they were.
The full collection is consists of four sets. Fin, Ida, Lola & Marlo. Each set consists of twelve presets. You can purchase each set individually, but honestly the full collection is so affordable you’ll want it all.
Here’s a peek at what they can do. This is one image from my son’s 12th birthday edited with one preset from each of the four collections. I’m such a geek. I love editing photos like this, it makes me giddy!
Currently you can download a free sample pack HERE. I highly encourage you to download it. Now, since I can’t stop. (see….editing really does get me unstuck when I’m in a rut). Here are a couple more fun before and afters before I go.
I think I have a think for Fin 😉
Of course it helps to know & understand the ins and outs of your editing software and fix things like white balance and exposure before you begin, but I love presets because they really can help speed the process along.
Dislcosure: I was provided a complimentary set of the Joystruck presets to try out. Joystruck is also generously providing a chance for you to win a complete set of your very own. Details here. I was not compensated for this post in any other way. I’m just a preset junkie who loves editing and thought you might like these presets too!
